چکیده
Adolescence may be defined as the period of life 'rom the end of childhood, and indicated physically by the bodily changes associated with puberty, continuing until full physical development is achieved, and adult status in society is recognised. Unfortunately there is incomplete agreement as to the time-period involved. Some authors (Sandstrom) consider the years from 12-16, the age 10-12 being generally regarded as prepubertal. Others will extend the period until 18 years or later (Hadfield). It is perhaps a simpler definition, to be used in this article, that we are dealing with events normal or abnormal occurring during the second decade of life.

In 1943, however, thiouracil was introduced by As...

As civilization advanced some of these women assisted regularly and ultimately as a means of livelihood. Thus arose the midwife. whose work concerns adults, many of them at the opposite extreme of life, should have chosen to speak about the surgery of the newborn. There are, of course, many reasons. Southmead Hospital, with its large Obstetric and Paediatric units and in particular the Special Care Baby Unit, has provided the material and the stimulus for me to develop, over the years, a special interest in those aspects...
